As a Junior Underwriter, you will learn to analyze new business health insurance applications in order to assess risk of future claims for Our Company at an entry level position. You must be trainable, self-motivated, able to work independently, confident in making your own decisions, have the ability to analyze medical information, work well with other team members, communicate effectively orally and written.
This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday – Friday. Employees are required to work our normal business hours of 8am-6pm Thursdays, 8AM – 5PM M-W & Friday. Thursday’s employees will be required to work 8:00am – 6:00pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Assessing Medical Risk for the Company.
- Knowledge and/or ability to learn our underwriting guidelines, medical terminology, prescription name/usage, as well as our in-house and vendor systems.
- Responding to internal and external queries regarding application submissions.
- Completing additional tasks and special projects as needed.

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED (or higher) OR equivalent work experience
- 2+ years experience working in any role within the healthcare insurance industry and performing daily work using health insurance industry software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word (updating/editing documents), Excel (updating/editing workbooks), Outlook (receiving/sending emails) and TEAMs.
- Ability to work full-time 8am-6pm Thursdays, 8AM – 5PM M-W & Friday
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years experience in a health insurance underwriting role
- Experience working in health insurance industry
- Experience working as a telecommuter
Soft Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Telecommuting Requirements:
- Reside within Central time zone
- Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
- Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
- Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service
