The job of the sign language interpreter will be to facilitate communication and other support services for new employees who are deaf or hard of hearing. Using formative linguistic, cultural, and life experiences the role will enable multifaceted comprehension and interaction in a wide range of visual, language, and communication forms. This role will support effective and positive communication via in-person or virtual platforms.

The ability to build and sustain effective professional relationships and work with people is paramount. Strong collaboration skills and patience are key to success in this role, as it directly impacts the onboarding and progress through the probationary period for new employees. 

This new role will be part of the Workplace Operations team, initially reporting directly to the VP of Global Workplace and based in the Philippines.


You'll Be...

  • Providing sign-language interpreter services throughout the 90-day probationary period for new employees 
  • Interpreting training, discussions, announcements, conversations, meetings, events, and other spoken word situations using the Filipino Sign System or other manual sign systems appropriate for the language and the cultural background of deaf or hard-of-hearing students and staff 
  • Coordinating schedules to cover all required training, meetings, and other job responsibilities
  • Coordinating requests for appropriate accommodations and documents determine services needed, and coordinates services for deaf or hard of hearing
  • Ensuring appropriate intake, advising, retention, and follow-up services for deaf or hard-of-hearing students
  • Ensuring that policies and procedures are compliant with the Filipino Sign Language RA 11106, as well as aligns with Section 504 and the American Disability Act
  • Maintaining regular communication and collaboration with PartnerHero associates to ensure understanding of relevant concepts to better facilitate translation for deaf or hard-of-hearing students
  • Working effectively in teams with other sign language interpreters and PartnerHero associates
  • Possibly traveling to various locations to fulfill position responsibilities
  • Assisting in the collection and preparation of documents, including Brailling, for students with disabilities


What You Bring To The Table

  • High-level fluency in Filipino Sign Language with some familiarity with American Sign Language, as well as basic knowledge of other technical signs or specialized vocabulary, used regionally
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills (C2 English) 
  • Passionate, outgoing, and believes in the importance of diversity and inclusion
  • Ability to accurately interpret spoken language to sign language and interpret sign-to-spoken language for onboarding of new employees
  • Ability to follow and give oral and written directions; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population; maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to attend training on various programs with new employees, translating for them and enabling them to fully understand all aspects of their roles and to successfully perform assigned tasks
  • Strong familiarity with the deaf culture and the local deaf community
  • Understanding of resources for the deaf, including knowledge of specialized equipment for the deaf and hard of hearing (such as TTY/VP)
  • Demonstrated organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple complex assignments/projects and maintaining records 
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and effectively present information to associates and management
  • Proficient in the use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and use of the Internet to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others
  • A strong commitment to the mission/culture of PartnerHero and demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills; ability to work independently
  • Well-organized and willing to work very flexible shifts due to the nature of the role
