DESCRIPTION
Amazon Transportation Services (ATS) provides transportation and logistics services to businesses and customers worldwide. ATS is dedicated to ensuring that packages and products are delivered to customers in a fast, reliable and cost-effective manner.
We are seeking an Intern Economist with experience in time series forecasting to join our science team to conduct research in demand forecasting. The successful candidate will work closely with the team to develop and implement forecasting models that will help improve the efficiency and reliability of our transportation services.
We are looking for detail-oriented, organized, and responsible individuals who are eager to learn how to work with large and complicated data sets. Some knowledge of econometrics, as well as basic familiarity with R or Python is necessary. Experience with SQL, time series forecasting techniques, and machine learning methods would be a plus.
These are full-time positions at 40 hours per week, with compensation being awarded on an hourly basis. You will learn how to build data sets and perform applied econometric analysis at Internet speed collaborating with economists, data scientists and MBAʼs. These skills will translate well into writing applied chapters in your dissertation and provide you with work experience that may help you with placement.

Key job responsibilities
• Work with the Transportation Services team to understand the needs of the business and identify areas for improvement in the science space.
• Analyzing large datasets and generating insights into demand patterns and trends.
• Use time series analysis to develop forecasting models that can predict demand.
• Collaborate with other scientists to test and refine the forecasting models.
• Work with software developers to integrate the forecasting models into our transportation management system.
• Monitor the accuracy and effectiveness of the forecasting models and make adjustments as necessary.
• Communicate your findings and recommendations to team members and stakeholders.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
PhD student in Economics or closely related field (enrolled in 3rd year or more and not currently on the job market)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Familiarity with Python
• Experience with SQL
• Experience with time series forecasting
• Experience with machine learning
• Experience working with large time series data sets

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $49.66/hr in our lowest geographic market up to $96.63/hr in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
